Why
The number of people rough sleeping in Hammersmith & Fulham doubled from 2023 to 2024.
Street sleeping and mental health issues are closely intertwined, with mental illness often leading to homelessness and, conversely, the stress of homelessness exacerbating mental health conditions. A significant proportion of rough sleepers experience mental health problems, with conditions like depression, anxiety, psychosis, and trauma being prevalent.
Barons Court Project was established in 1985 after a group of psychiatrists and social workers realised there was little or no provision for people living with mental health issues and people who are homeless in the locality.
Today Barons Court Project (BCP) is the only day centre in Hammersmith & Fulham dedicated to supporting people experiencing homelessness or living with mental health challenges.
